African Rural University has officially become an associate member of the IUCEA. The council brings together institutions for higher learning within East Africa.
The resolution to admit ARU as an associate member of the IUCEA was reached upon on 24th June, 2013 during an Executive committee meeting which sat at City Hill Hotel in Bujumbura. The Council aspires to:
a. Facilitate networking among universities in East Africa, and with universities outside the region;
b. Provide a forum for discussion on a wide range of academic and other matters relating to higher education in East Africa; and
c. Facilitate maintenance of internationally comparable education standards so as to promote the region’s competitiveness in higher education.
I.U.C.E.A becomes an effective regional advocate and catalyst for the strategic development and management of higher education in East African.
I.U.C.E.A shall coordinate and facilitate stakeholders so as to promote strategic, sustainable and competitive development of higher education sector in East Africa.
Main Roles and Functions
- Coordinate inter-university cooperation in East Africa;
- Facilitate the strategic development of member universities; and
- Promote internationally comparable higher education standards and systems for sustainable regional development.
The IUCEA Act 2009 mandates the institution to advise the EAC Partner States on higher education matters.
