The President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has honored the Founder of African Rural University Dr. Mwalimu Musheshe with the prestigious Golden Jubilee medal during Uganda’s 51st Independence Day celebrations held on 9th October 2013 at Rukungiri Stadium.

This year’s celebrations were held   under the theme“Reenergising Uganda’s Development Potential: Middle Income Status Achievable.”

The medals were awarded to top personalities who supported and continue to support the liberation struggles in Uganda and Africa at large in all spheres of life especially in Education, Religious, Political among others. Out of the 34 Universities in Uganda, ARU was among the 22 Universities who had a member(s) honored during the celebrations and the recognition makes Dr. Mwalimu Musheshe the second member of ARU Council to be recognized by the President in 2013, after Mrs. Joyce Mpanga the Ag. African Rural University Council Chairperson was honored during the National Women’s Day celebration earlier this year for her tremendous contribution towards women empowerment and women movements that have helped bring about equality in the society.

In a related development,Food Tank: The Food Think Tank recognized Dr. Mwalimu Musheshe as a“Food Hero” during the World Food Day Celebrations. The Not for Profit Organisation identifiedAfrican Rural University (ARU)andUganda Rural Development and Training Programme (URDT)as model institutions, championing environmentally sustainable farming traditions and integrating aspects of modern agriculture.Read more

It must also be noted that African Rural University also officially became an associate member of the Inter University Council for East Africa mid this year and on top of this, ARU was unanimously appointed to represent Private Universities in the review of the Uganda education system on 2nd September 2013. The UVCF Chairperson Prof. Al-Haji Badru D. Kateregga commended ARU’s curriculum and noted that;

“If we can integrate the approach employed by ARU,

then our graduates will not become a burden to our nation”.
