The Academic Registrar of African Rural University Dr. David Mutekanga, a member of the International Scientific Advisory Committee  participated in the 2017 bi annual conference that took place from 5th to 9th November 2017 at David Ben Gurion University of The Negev in  Israel. The theme for 2017 was “Translating theory into Practice”. Dr. Mutekanga organized and lead a session on how Africa is translating the discoveries in managing dry lands from theory into practice.

The session had 4 speakers and 2 poster presentations from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Israel and Kazarkhistan. The main focus was on how to implement the current knowledge and advise arising from research results into managing the dry lands in rural areas. After presentation of various papers, it was very clear that there is a lot to learn from the actual practices taking place in rural dry lands which are not captured by the various researches taking place in universities and research Institutes.
Dr. Mutekanga recommended that Scientists undertaking research should document the success stories of practices taking place in rural areas and have these published as well. He added that there is also need to conduct comparative analysis of these practices in dry lands of rural areas in Africa and Asia including the Middle East.
The conference was attended 250 delegates from allover the world.
