Retired Lt. Colonel Steven Kananura a PhD candidate at Makerere University has today mobilized the public especially residents of Bunyoro to love and build on their background to foster social development. Lt. Colonel Kananura made the encouragement during a Public lecture organized by African Rural University at ARU Centre for reflection and Development hall under the theme; “the pre-colonial history of Uganda with focus on Bunyoro Kitara.”
He first took the participants through the pre-colonial era in Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom and Uganda in which he says people of Uganda validate external history than prioritizing their own which he says kills roots of development.
Kananura further discouraged public orientation of tribe discrimination.

In his way forward Kananura advises the public to embark on positive competition building on their background history if development is to take strong roots.
Members from different communities of greater Kibaale (Kibaale, Kagadi and Kakumiro) District praised Colonel Steven Kananura for exhibiting the importance of Kitara history adding that they now have a starting point.

The University Secretary ARU Ms. Jacqueline Akello noted with concern that most African cultures have resorted to fighting for territories than completion for innovations based on the African history.
Akello adds that part of the African Rural University mission is to research and document African History with the help of auxiliary lecturers in the name of Traditional Wisdom Specialists.

The lecture that was moderated by Dr. Mutekanga of ARU and was also attended by the CEO and Found URDT/ARU Dr. Mwalimu Musheshe Senior, ARU Staff, URDT staff, students and community members.
